Thousands of spectators and surfers are flocking to Hawaii's beaches to see the biggest waves in years crash ashore. Heavy traffic backed up for miles yesterday along roads leading to Oahu's North Shore. Some of the world's most daring surfers took on the powerful and dangerous waves, which forecasters say could reach heights of 50ft (15 metres) by tomorrow. SUNSET BEACH (HawaiiNewsNow) - It could be the biggest surf Hawaii has seen in the past 40 years. Although the surf calmed down a bit on Sunday, some North Shore of Oahu residents prepared for the worst. Sunset Beach pumped up the hundreds who came to see the big wave spectacular. NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- A surfer in New Smyrna Beach was caught on tape kicking and paddling frantically after spotting a shark closing in on him a day after a boy was bitten in the same area.
